Da Nang Quang Nam

Da Nang, Quang Nam join forces

Da nang city and the adjacent province of Quang Nam have agreed to co-operate for developing into a major economic hub, with focus on tourism.

Under the agreement they will link up their tourist and cultural festivals in the next two years.

They also plan to join hands with Thua Thien-Hue Province for the "Three localities, One destination" programme and popularise tourist products, natural spots, and historical and cultural heritages of the central region.

Tour operators in Quang Nam and Da nang are already co-operating to organise trips to Japan, China, Russia, and the United States and promote common tourist products (the Central Heritage Road) and special products (marine tourism, cultural, historical, and world cultural heritage sites).

Da Nang’s representative office in Japan will assist Quang Nam in expanding international ties and promote tourism at home and abroad.

Their co-operation plan also involves speeding up infrastructure works, especially roads.

Priority investment will be made to upgrade the Da Nang-Dong Giang – Tay Giang road, a vital stretch on National Highway 1.

They will jointly tackle environmental pollution along major rivers like Thu Bon, Vinh Dien and Co Co.

The two sides will regularly send environmentalists to check the pollution caused by wastewater discharged by industries along the rivers.

In 2008-12 Da Nang will provide VND15 billion (US$930,000) each year to Quang Nam for social welfare projects like construction of houses for poor people and educational and training programmes in disadvantaged rural areas.
